The Solutions
An equitable education is when students including those with special needs get what they deserve in order to succeed. These resources include getting funded accordingly, getting evaluated correctly , and being prepared for future endeavors, all while following IEP laws. More teachers and better resources is a part of the key to that equity.
Teachers in training for special education needs should not be ignored. Funding in the schools should reflect on how well special education programs are doing. Special Education programs are also scapegoats for those who didn’t receive the right education.
When evaluating children for special education services, it can be hard to tell whether a child has a disability or if they were not provided with the appropriate knowledge in previous schools. This problem could be solved by changing the evaluation process to focus on only children with learning disabilities. When a child is claimed to have a disability, schools should require a medical record proving the child’s diagnosis with special needs. This requirement will allow those children with little prior knowledge to receive a better education in order to be successful in the future.
This all accumulates to the pressing subject of preparation for the future. New ways of obtaining standard GED diplomas need to be created. Diplomas are essential to the students success, and without them all the years of hard work from both teacher and student would be for nothing.
